08/30/2008 - Campbellville, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The first four Breeders Crown races of the year took center-stage Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack. The remaining eight events will be held at The Meadowlands on Saturday, November 29.

In Saturday's initial Breeders Crown race, Corleone Kosmos, who nearly won last year's Breeders Crown Open Trot before going off stride, won the 2008 $638,580 edition by a length over Arch Madness. Driven by Hall of Famer John Campbell, the six-year-old gelding trotted the mile in 1:51 4/5.

"Much better than losing. Redemption is sweet," said Bryan Owen of the winning stable. "He got the total perfect trip for him, and when he got out at the top of the stretch I thought this is our race to lose."

Trained by Darren McCall, the gelding has won 17 of 43 career races and earned more than $1.6 million.

Corleone Kosmos paid $8.70, $4.00 and $3.20. Arch Madness returned $5.00 and $3.30, and Digital Image paid $4.60 to show.

In the $352,815 Breeders' Crown Mare Trot, 2-1 second choice Brigham Dream defeated Susies Magic by a half-length. Another half-length back was Exotic Destination in the 10-horse field.

Winner of last week's elimination race, Brigham Dream trotted the mile in 1:53 2/5. Luc Ouellette drove the four-year-old mare to her second victory of the year.

Brigham Dream has won 11 of 26 career starts for $665,000.

Brigham Dream returned $6.30, $4.30 and $3.30. Susies Magic paid $10.70 and $7.30, and Exotic Destination paid $12.20 to show. Falls For You, the 4-5 favorite, was last.

My Little Dragon became a three-time Breeders Crown champion Saturday night with a win in the $352,815 Mare Pace. Driven by Brian Sears, the five-year-old mare paced the mile in 1:50 1/5.

Darlins Delight was two-lengths back in second and Hana Hanover finished third.

My Little Dragon was a Breeders Crown champion at ages two and three. She has earned $2.2 million in 48 lifetime starts with 23 victories.

Sent off as the 3-2 favorite, My Little Dragon returned $5.30, $3.70 and $3.00. Darlins Delight paid $5.10 and $2.90, and Hana Hanover paid $7.50 to show.

Closing the night in the $532,150 Breeders Crown Open Pace, Mister Big avenged last year's loss by defeating Artistic Fella by three-lengths. A nose separated them at the wire in the 2007 Breeders Crown.

Driver Brian Sears recorded his second Crown win of the night as Mister Big paced the mile in 1:50. Kenneth J was third.

Mister Big, a five-year-old, beat Artistic Fella in the recent Canadian Pacing Derby and was last year's champion older male pacer. He has earnings of $3 million in 63 career starts and 25 wins.

Mister Big paid $2.80, $2.20 and $2.10. Artistic Fella returned $3.20 and $3.20, and Kenneth J paid $9.10 to show.

In other harness racing news, Hambletonian champ Deweycheatumnhowe held off Celebrity Secret down the stretch to capture the $565,000 World Trotting Derby Saturday at the DuQuoin, IL State Fair. It was his 17th straight win and the time for the mile, 1:50 4/5, is the fastest by any trotter in 2008.

"The only thing I was concerned about, he raced once in two weeks," said trainer Ray Schnittker. "He had two weeks off after the Hambo, never raced him, only trained him. I think that in the next couple weeks, when he hits Lexington, he should be getting really tight again. I'm going to try to keep him fresh, keep him going. It seems like that's working."

Schnittker, who is also the driver and co-owner, said that the colt's next start will be eliminations and final of the Canadian Trotting Classic on September 6 and 13 and then to Lexington's Red Mile for the Kentucky Futurity on October 4.

Perfect in all 17 lifetime starts, Deweycheatumnhowe picks up $282,500 with the win and now has career earnings of $2,250,746.

In what should be an outstanding Saturday of March Madness betting action, the top four teams in the South and West Regions square off in what should be extremely close match-ups. Three of the four teams are coming off extremely close games on Thursday evening, only UCLA won semi comfortably over Pitt 64-55.

Ohio State is coming off their second game in a row where in all reality they should have lost. Of course that doesn’t matter now since the name of the game is “survive and advance” but as the tournament continues, they can’t afford to keep getting down to their opponents early. Kansas also avoided a scare by holding off a scrappy Southern Illinois squad. In the third thrilling game of the evening Memphis pulled off the minor upset (+3.5) despite being the higher seed to Texas A&M.

Although the spreads are fairly small for Saturday’s games, MySportsbook.com continue to bet against the underdogs. Despite OSU’s two scares, 86% of the “betting public” feels the Buckeyes (-1.5) have what it takes to make the Final Four. In fact, so much of the early money is on OSU that the line has already moved from -1 to -1.5. In the second game of the doubleheader, Kansas and their high-powered offense are 2 point favorites as they take on UCLA and their effective defense. About 63% of the early money thus far is once again backing the favorites. If those percentages stay that high, don’t be surprised if this line moves as well. If you like Kansas (-2) you might want to jump on it early.

Memphis vs. Ohio State

Both squads were involved in thrillers on Thursday evening and should come out fired up. OSU can ill afford to get behind early like they did versus their previous two opponents (Xavier, Tennessee). Greg Oden needs to stay out of foul trouble; the Buckeyes are a completely different team when he is on the court. Memphis definitely has the athleticism and length to match-up with OSU. Of Memphis’ five leading minute earners, the shortest of the bunch is 6’5”. Each team has a very effective defense; Memphis surrenders 62.3 PPG whereas the Buckeyes give up only 61 PPG. With those type of numbers, it isn’t surprising that Memphis covered the UNDER almost 69% of the time this season. As a favorite, OSU has covered the UNDER almost 66% of the time over the last three seasons. The major concern for Memphis which is magnifies this time of the year is their brutal foul shooting (62%). This season, OSU is 17-11 ATS versus teams with a winning record and 7-2 ATS in all tournament games. Memphis has been an extremely reliable cover in tournament play in recent years with a 23-8 ATS record over the last three seasons.

UCLA vs. Kansas

In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, UCLA will play in a role which they are very unfamiliar with that of the underdog. Only twice this season have they been getting points from the handicappers and both times they covered. Over the last three seasons UCLA is a reliable 23-7 ATS in this unfamiliar role. UCLA has not fared well against Big 12 opponents recently going 1-7 ATS since 1997. Giving up only 59.6 PPG, UCLA will definitely look to do what they do best: keep this game as low scoring as possible. Their defense has been especially tough during the tournament. UCLA opponents have been able to muster up only 48.7 PPG while shooting a combined 34.5% from the field. UCLA definitely has a challenge at hand with a Kansas team that is capable of putting points on the board in bunches. As a team, they average 79 PPG and shoot an impressive 49.6% from the field and 39.4% from beyond the arc. During the tournament Kansas has been “lights out” from the field having shot 56.2%.
